2007 Holiday Dancing — TDI Photo Gallery
Motherlode K-9 Dancing Therapy Dogs of the Sierra held performances at several Sonora area nursing homes and care facilities for the elderly and disabled over the holiday season. A good time was had by all.
Canine Dancing is a choreographed performance organized with music, illustrating the training and joyful relationship of a dog and handler team. It is an excellent discipline to illustrate the conformation and movement of the dog. The reach, drive and beauty of an athletic, trained dog moving to music can take one's breath away.
About the TDI Dancing Dogs
The Dogs Can Dance program was started in 1989 by Judy Gamut in the Bay Area as freestyle dancing. In 2003, we heard about Judy and her dancing Rottweiler and invited her to Sonora to give a seminar to the therapy dog owners that were interested in this new form of activity for dogs.
We wanted her to help us choreograph routines that we could perform as a group in small areas of the local rest home. She has since given seminars in Sonora each year and has helped and encouraged us tremendously.
This past summer it was decided to work on a new routine for the Christmas season. There are 10 in the group. This Christmas we 'danced' at Tuolume General Day Care and Long Term, the Venture Watch, Sonora Regional Long Term Units 6 and 7, the Blessing of the Animals in Groveland, Goldridge and Casa Viejo. Channel 3 was at Casa Viejo to film us for a segment on Channel 3.
Anyone wishing to know more or want to participate in this fun program, please contact me. The pre-requisite is a Basic Obedience Course.
The Motherlode K-9 Dancing Therapy Dogs of the Sierra has new classes scheduled to begin in January 2008, for those interested in showing off their moves with their best friend.
